Ruth Soller
Artist Biography
My interest in drawing and painting began as a young child growing up in Fayetteville, Arkansas, where my first art lessons were taught by Virginia Cammack.  My education includes a Home Economics degree from the University of Arkansas and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Oklahoma.  I have studied in Arkansas, Montana, California, and Alabama from such artists as Donnave Lindsey, Jake Wagnon, Rick Mills, Morris Shubin, and Loren Kovich.  In July 2000, I studied oil portraiture from Daniel E. Greene in his North Salem, New York, studio.

I accept commissions for portraits of people as well as architectural renderings.  Over 150 of my paintings are in private and public collections.  My works have been included in regional and national juried shows, including the Montgomery Museum of Fine Art/Alabama Landscapes Show, Montgomery Art Guild/Regions Bank Show, Selma Art guild/Peoples’ Bank Show, Nightingale Biennial Show at AUM School of Nursing, “Paint the Waterfront” Show at South Trust Bank at Union Station, and the National Art Exhibition for Women in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

I love the spontaneity, transparency and the brilliant, vibrant hues of watercolors.  I also enjoy the enduring elegance and rich tradition of oil portraiture.  Drawing inspiration from the beauty of nature and from my children, my representational paintings include architectural renderings, portraits, landscapes, florals and still lifes.  In each painting, I seek to capture the expression of the model or the essence of the scene by developing a dynamic abstract pattern of light versus dark in the composition.  I have been influenced by work of Claude Monet, Mary Cassatt, Winslow Homer, John Singer Sargent, and Georgia O’Keefe.  My works are available at
