After retiring, Margaret began work again, this time in her avocation, the fascinating study of abstract colors, shapes and shadows, especially when applied to pastel or watercolor.She enjoyed studying with Nell Hardeman for several years. She has studied under many other fine artists, including Joan Segrest and Shirley Baird. In 1987, she had the opportunity of a seven-week trip to China to study Chinese Brush Art at the Zeijhing Academy of Fine Arts in Hangzhou. Then in 1989, she was able to study again with the same Chinese professor at Dauphin Island.
Her paintings have been accepted in many juried art shows, such as the First Alabama Bank/ Montgomery Art Guild Show, Montgomery Art Guild Museum Show, SAC's Waterfront Show, and Company Gallery.
